What a powerful movie. Living in an abusive relationship with a miserable person is daunting. Having kids in that relationship is even more horrific.
It is only by the grace of God that one can survive those circumstances and the story of this innocent child (J. Michael Finley) is testimony to that.
The scene where is his father (Dennis Quaid) takes his handmade helmet and destroys it is heartbreaking and shows just how far his evil ran through.
The story takes us on his journey and the moments that will just break your heart leading up to the salvation of his father and himself. His loving grandmother (Cloris Leachman) had so much positive influence on him that I wished they would have developed that a bit more.
Her words and his father’s testimony written in a simple journal influenced his writing of the song that became a number one best seller. A very happy and surprise ending, including Amy Grant, gave hope for all that have doubt in humanity.
I highly recommend this movie. Bring tissues. You’ll need them.
